Samuel Eto’o Fils had made his stance clear as regards the presidential elections Come October 7. This most admired Cameroonian football legend publicly declared that his full support goes to the incumbent (President Paul Biya) . This statement has sparked up controversy on social media. As his fans are lavishly bashing at him for making such public declarations.
It is true, politics and sports are “coins” of opposite direction. According to some football lovers, with the present state of the country certain statements from highly influential youths can cause havoc . Former indomitable Lion’s Captain Song Rigobert had openly told the people he stands with President Paul Biya to enjoy another 7years term in power, Samuel Eto’o concluded sharing same view with that of his colleague .
An indication that they acknowledge the fact that the present government contributed to their shine and stardom. One is tempted to ask this question . If Longué Longué the old renounced makossa artist is touring around with Akere Muna doing campaigns, Composing songs to sing for Akere on the eve of October 7, Why should that of Samuel Eto’o and Co be mystified by Cameroonians?
Some top Cameroonian musicians were selected to grace the stage for president Paul Biya a day before elections, however, with the social media force and criticisms, one artist withdrew from the list of artists set to perform on that day. Could it be fear?
It is true freedom of speech should be given to the people and let them demonstrate their democratic rights. Should Longué Longué be blamed along side Song and Samuel Eto’o for taking sides or just Samuel and Song be blamed for opting to vote for Paul Biya?
